We are going to try something a little different. If dog trainers will send us questions about either training or training behavior (Please! No, “My dog is pooping in my blue suede shoes.” questions.) We will then post the question on this page and ask for input from all of you. Within a few days, we will post all suitable answers, bizarre or otherwise. Please Email us with questions or responses. We may even get into the fray, from time to time. We will not post names or Email addresses in the questions or answers, unless you say it is okay. No cry babi

I want to build a basic dog training libary. Are there any books you can recommend that can help me understand more about the basics of working dog training?—"Spineless"

As a starting K-9 officer, I have been told that Schutzhund tracking and AKC tracking are styles that are not good for street dogs, and that we should be concentrating on tactical trailing techniques. Is this true and what are the differences?—"Lost on the Track"

Like many trainers, I started teaching the heel with a ball. Now my heeling is excellent except that the dog crowds and slightly forges, with its flank sticking out. Also, because of the problem, I have problems getting a straight sit. I have tried the usual solutions of using a lead and pinch collar, even hitting the dog's right shoulder with my knee. Any suggestions? —"Crooked"
